BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION: Morsches Park to revise weekdays schedule

March 21, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY (March 21, 2014) — The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that work will begin as weather permits for the bridge project on U.S. 30 over Blue River at Morsches Park Drive in Columbia City. The project will consist of superstructure and sub structure improvements of the Dean Brenneman Bridge on U.S. 30 in Whitley County.

Throughout the construction, Morsches Park Drive and associated trailways at the bridge will be closed during the weekday, from 5 a.m. and will reopen each evening. It will also be open during the weekends and during certain holidays and events. When the road is reopened, it will be a single 10-foot lane in each direction with a 5-foot bike path.

After the crossovers are constructed on U.S. 30 this spring, traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction, with an enforceable speed limit of 45 miles per hour.

Mayor Ryan L. Daniel, of Columbia City, states, "We continue to work with INDOT through the transition of the project. We are excited this renovation of the bridge will be an improvement in our community."

R.L. McCoy was awarded the bid for $2.5 million. The completion date it Oct. 31, 2014.
