WHITLEY COUNTY — According to Whitley County Engineer Brandon Forrester, the county is working hard on the bridge repair project, located on CR 700 E. between CR 900 S. and 1000 S. The road has been closed since Oct. 1 and is expected to remain closed until January of next year.
Forrester said trees have been cleared to make way for the work, and minor grading and excavation, has taken place.
Ten steel encased concrete piles, that are 14-inches in diameter, have all been driven and poured.
There are five on each end of the bridge.
A NIPSCO gas line, which needed to be relocated, is complete.
“There was a minor delay in actual bridge construction due to this, but we knew that in advance,” said Forrester. “NIPSCO was quite cooperative and diligent in completing this work, which is appreciated.”
Forrester also said one of two end bents have been formed, reinforcing steel has been placed, and the contractor poured concrete Wednesday.
“The end bents rest on the piles and will support the bridge slab,” said Forrester.
