’Busco boys win, girls lose to Angola in opening round of NECC tourney

ANGOLA — Churubusco traveled to Angola Tuesday night and beat the Hornets 44-32 in the first round of the Northeast Hoosier Conference Tournament.

Three Eagle hoopsters scored in double digits; Chris Jones had 12, Josh LeFever chipped in 11 and Tyler Arrowsmith tallied 10. The three combined for 33 of ’Busco’s 11 points.

With a close 8-7 score in favor of Churubusco at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles pulled away at the half, outscoring the Hornets 12-4. ’Busco added to its 20-11 score at halftime with an 8-5 advantage in the third quarter.

In a high scoring fourth-quarter, Angola matched the Eagles’ points at 16, making the final score 44-32.

Also scoring for Churubusco was Austin Goepfrich with seven and Dylan Jones at four.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Westview beat Prairie Heights, 61-40 and West Noble defeated Hamilton, 69-43. Churubusco will play at Westview tonight with a 7:45 p.m. tip-off time in an effort to advance to the semi-finals.
If the Eagles win, they will host the winner of Fairfield and Lakeland on Friday night. West Noble will host Eastside and Central Noble travels to Fremont tonight.

Churubusco’s girls lost to Angola 65-25 and will play in a consolation game Friday night.
