CHURUBUSCO — Smith-Green Community Schools started classes Monday morning with a new superintendent, Galen Mast. Before the transition, SGCS took the time to honor its departing district leader and long-time servant of public education, Ralph Bailey.

Bailey had been with SGCS since July 2012, serving as interim superintendent.

Administrators, Bailey’s family and other well-wishers were on hand for the reception. Among Bailey’s visitors were two Indiana State Representatives, Rep. David Ober and Rep. Kathy Heuer.

Bailey said, while he has finished this term with SGCS, he still isn’t done working in education.

In recent years, Bailey has served as interim superintendent 12 times at various school corporations. Now that he finds himself temporarily without work, Bailey intends to take a vacation, starting later this week.

As for his next job, Bailey isn’t sure where he would be next, but he feels he won’t have to search very hard.
