CHURUBUSCO — The Churubusco Lady Eagles were firing on all cylinders Tuesday night against the Lakeland Lady Lakers, picking up a 3-1 win.
In just their third win of the season, Lady Eagles head coach Trinda Goings found the right mix of energetic freshmen and experienced upperclassmen to pull out a conference win.
“We seem to be clicking, the older girls are accepting the young girls that we’ve moved up,” Goings said.
Four Lady Eagles shared ’Busco’s blocks on the night, Heather Monk, Haleigh Gross, Chandler Voght, and Nicole Trump.
The Lady Eagles started the match with a quick 25-19 win in game one, followed by a 25-21 loss.
Though ’Busco never gained a lead of more than five, the Lady Eagles held the lead throughout the entire third game, gaining a 25-23 win over the Lady Lakers.
Picking up aces were Ashlie Shelton, Danielle Pippenger and Morgen Young, each with two.
Game four was a long battle, with four lead changes but ’Busco’s defense held on for a 25-23 win.
“Our defense did great, Young and Pippenger really helped fuel our offense,” Goings said.
Young recorded 22 digs for the night and fellow junior teammate Monk had 15 kills.
“We needed this win to help us get ready for Fairfield Thursday, they’re a dynamite team,” Goings said. “We’re going to have to bring our A+ game.”
