’Busco grabs first victory

Churubusco’s girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season Thursday at Northrop, 4-1.

“We are very excited,” said Churubusco Head Coach Natalie Pugh.
The Lady Eagles worked hard in the win, with three matches going to three sets.

In No. 1 singles, Audrey Giercher won the first set 7-5, then fell in the second set 6-0. She came back to win a long third set, 7-6 (7-5).
The No. 2 doubles team of Maggie Kitt and Nikki Esslinger won in a similar match.

After taking the first set 7-6 (7-3), the Lady Eagles fell in the second set 6-4. Kitt and Esslinger came back to take a 6-4 win for the match.
In No. 3 singles, Cheyenne Conner took a more lopsided win, 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles team of Katee Baxter and Aaliyah Hensinger won 6-3, 6-4.

The lone loss of the night was a hard-fought battle by No. 2 singles player Camille Cseri. After winning the first set 6-2, she fell 6-4, 6-4 in the next two sets.

In junior varsity action, Morgan Gressley won No. 1 singles 6-0.
In No. 1 doubles, Kaley Scott and Kayla Masco won 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Alexis Bultemier and Brittney Gressley won 6-3.
The Lady Eagles are back in action Tuesday for a Northeast Corner Conference match against Angola.
