HAMILTON â€” Churubuscoâ€™s baseball team fought off a seventh-frame Hamilton rally to defeat the Marines Friday night in the semi-final game of the Northeast Corner Conference tournament.
The Eagles had a 7-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
With the Marines up to bat, Hamilton scored three runs, had to runners on base and the winning run up to bat.
The Eagles held on for the 7-5 win.
The game started off uneventful offensively.
The score was tied at one until the bottom of the third when Hamilton scored off a sacrifice bunt down the third-base line.
Churubuscoâ€™s Logan Harris answered with the start of a four-run inning for the Eagles.
Harris got on base and stole second base before scoring the tying run.
With two outs, Austin Goepfrich and Alan Meeks crossed home plate after a wild throw to first base.
Kody Poyser finished the inning in prime fashion, stealing home plate after a wild Marine pitch. The inning finished with the Eagles up 5-2.
Churubusco chipped in another run in the sixth. Cody Schaefer crossed home plate after another Hamilton error; a dropped ball at first base after a hit from Poyser.
Harris scored again in the top of the seventh to take a comfortable 7-2 lead going into the final three outs.
The Marines scored three runs, making the score a threatening 7-5.
The Eagles managed the final out with two runners on base.
The Eagles travel to Fremont to play Central Noble today at noon for the championship game.View more articles in:
