LIGONIER â€” A first inning home run from Jordan Howell gave Churubuscoâ€™s baseball team a lead it would not relinquish in a win against West Noble Thursday in the NECC tournament.
â€˜Busco beat the Chargers 7-3, although it took nine innings to do it.
Howellâ€™s homer was part of a three-run first that gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. West Noble chipped away, bringing about a tie score that pushed the game into bonus baseball. Then, Churubusco added four runs to break the tie in the top of the ninth, and West Noble was unable to respond.
Brent Simmons earned the victory on the mound for the Eagles, pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief. He did not allow any runs or hits and struck out five.
Howell was 2-of-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Logan Harris was 2-of-5 for the Eagles, and Jacob Howe grabbed the other of â€˜Buscoâ€™s five hits.
Kody Poyser and Jay Petrie both had RBIs and both scored runs as well.View more articles in:
