CHURUBUSCO â€” A sixth-inning rally gave Churubuscoâ€™s softball team its second victory of the season Tuesday against Whitko.
After trailing 4-0 in the first inning and the score tied at four going into the sixth, the Lady Eagles got three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, winning 7-4.
Center-fielder Kasey Gibson led Churubusco with a .750 batting average, connecting with 3-of-4 at-bats. She scored three runs and had an RBI.
Mariah Herendeen pitched for the Lady Eagles, with five strike outs and five hits.
Whitko got on the board early in the first with a grand-slam by senior Cassie Jones. With Karissa Olinske, Audra Day and Hannah Himes on base, Jones quickly gave the Lady â€™Cats a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Though they started out with a bang, Whitko didnâ€™t score another run for the rest of the game. â€™Busco answered with two runs in the first two innings by Gibson and another in the second by Herendeen to make the score 4-3.
Lady Eagle Chandler Blake scored in the fifth inning to tie the score at four.
Whitko is back in action tonight, hosting Huntington North. The Lady Eagles take a break before hosting Lakeland April 17.View more articles in:
