COLUMBIA CITY â€” A six-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries Monday night after she was struck by a car. According to police, the girl was walking home from her neighborâ€™s house on W. Ellsworth Street in Columbia City at approximately 5:45 p.m. The girl was crossing from the south side of the road to her house at 614 W. Ellsworth St. as a car backed out and headed east.
A westbound vehicle didnâ€™t see the girl, who was â€śjust a few steps away from her driveway,â€ť according to Columbia City Police Sergeant Trey Insley.
She was struck by the westbound vehicle, which threw her into the rocky ditch.
The girl was transported to the hospital with a lacerated lung, bruised liver and several lacerations to her head.The crash is under investigation by the Columbia City Police Department. Also assisting on the scene was Columbia Cityâ€™s Fire Department and Whitley County EMS.
