COLUMBIA CITY — A typical summer at The Center for Whitley County Youth is usually about relationships.
Summer Central would normally provide an opportunity several afternoons each week for students to gather and spend time around adults that care about how their summer goes.
This summer is still about relationships, but it will be entirely different than any prior year.
Summer SERVE, a new effort, will engage middle and high school students in weekly endeavors to do positive things throughout the community.
Though most of the activities will be student led, Todd Blanton, program director, and a small team of community volunteers, will coach this team of students.
Students must apply to be involved in Summer SERVE.
The other major shift this summer is what is happening inside the building. For the past year, The Center has been not only raising funds, but implementing its Building Hope plans to make long-overdue repairs, updates and renovations to its facility.
