CHAMBER EXPO: 1,000-plus attend 2012 event
COLUMBIA CITY — More than 1,000 people poured through Indian Middle Springs Saturday at the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce Business EXPOsed to see what area businesses have to offer. The EXPO was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the event hosted a long list of vendors and entertainment.Carrie Hoffman, board member for the chamber, said there were more than 50 booths at this year’s EXPO, most of them from Whitley County, but others from Allen County.“It’s one stop shopping,” said Hoffman. “It’s hard to go door to door, but here you can go from table to table.”Hoffman said the EXPO is usually held in March, but because the Huntington EXPO was set for the same day, and they share many of the same vendors, it was decided to move it forward. “Having it a different month, we were afraid that it would hurt our numbers, but it really hasn’t,” said Hoffman. “Before nine o’clock there were people here, and within the first hour, we had 150 people.”New to the EXPO this year was a job fair, held from 9 to 11 a.m. Four area businesses participated in the event, meeting people from the community and accepting applications. For more information about the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce, call them at 248-8131.
