CHURUBUSCO — It’s an end of an era at Churubusco Public Library. After more than 14 years Carol Scherer is retiring from her position as librarian.
Good news is long-time CPL employee, Rachel Eyermann, is taking over the reigns at the library that has 28,000 items for patrons to choose from.
An open house is planned today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CPL located at 116 N. Mulberry St., Churubusco.
“June 1, 1998 seems like such a short time ago and yet lo and behold it’s been 14-plus years,” said Scherer.
That date began a very big change for Scherer.
“Not only was I beginning a new library position, I was moving to a new state and meeting all new people,” she said.
The Ohio native only knew her son and his family at that time. She had lived just west of Toledo, Ohio.
“What a challenge, but I accepted that challenge with excitement and trepidation,” she said.
“I was 65 and had been working as a travel guide. I was on a trip and I applied for the job at CPL. That was before (most people had) cell phones and my son called me and told me that CPL had accepted my offer,” said Scherer.
Scherer replaced Librarian Karan Hill who now owns K&K Video.
