Charles E. Macy, 82, a resident of Churubusco, passed away unexpectedly at 8:08 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Mr. Macy was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Richmond, a son of Oscar and Mary (Hamilton) Macy.
He moved to this area as a child with his parents, and graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1951.
As a young man he served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict, and was married in Noble County on Oct. 11, 1952, to Patricia L. Halsey.
Employed at International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 30 years, he retired as a die repairman there in 1981.
He was a member of the Big Lake Church of God, north of Columbia City; and the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco.
He will long be remembered for his story telling, and his unconditional love and acceptance of all persons. He was a person of a deep abiding faith, and loved and cherished his family.
Mrs. Macy preceded him in death Aug. 3, 2001.
The surviving relatives include his children, David L. (Tina) Macy of LaOtto and Phyllis (Jim) Eckert of Churubusco; a brother, Thomas (Viola) Macy of Columbia City; two sisters, Vera Gaff of Warsaw and Melanie (Robin) Ramey of Ash Grove, Mo.; his grandchildren, Nathan (Denise) Macy, Dustin (Courtney) Macy, Molly (Stone) Opliger, and Brad Eckert; and his great-grandchildren, Brittany Macy, Jonathan Macy, Samuel Macy, and Alexander Macy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Big Lake Church of God with Pastors Shawn Easterling and Tim Grable, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be offered at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.
