Chester â€śChetâ€ť â€śBillâ€ť Napier, 80, of Columbia City, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor where he had been a resident since Feb. 24, 2010.
He was born July 25, 1932, in Hazard, Ky., a son of Otis and Florence (Fugate) Napier.
His formative years were spent in Kentucky.
In 1950, he moved to Collins and in 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1962.
He worked for B & O Railroad in Albion, Franke Plating for more than seven years and retired in 1995 from Dana Weatherhead with 28 years of service.
Since the mid 1960s, he made his home in Etna Troy Township. On June 11, 1977, he married Doris A. (Smith) Wells. Mrs. Napier died Aug. 17, 1991.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Chester E. Napier of Texas, Billy Ray Napier of Illinois and Charles Napier of Texas; four stepchildren, Margaret (Jack) Carter of Timbo, Ark., Carl (Becky) Wells, Dean (Missy Martinez) Wells and Rick Wells, all of Columbia City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Napier of Hazard, Ky.; two sisters, Martha Harrison of Lexington, Ky. and Cassie Nixon of Greenvillr, Ohio and special friends, the Helen Rossiter family.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Danny Wells; two brothers, Jessie Napier and Brack Napier and a sister, Ruby Clair.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after noon. The burial will be in Thorn Cemetery, Ormas.
