CHURUBUSCO —The Churubusco Town Council voted to hire Todd M. Sattison of Garrett as the town’s new wastewater treatment supervisor.Sattison, who currently works in Auburn, will begin July 9 at the rate of $1,440 per month. He replaces Bob Hyatt, who was terminated by the town earlier in the month. In other news the council adopted the Sidewalk Enhancement Project as presented by Madalyn Sade-Bartl, clerk/treasurer and Jeremy Hart, town supervisor.By approving this project the town can apply for grants for the Save Routes to School program. Citizens of Churubusco can partake in a 50/50 Sidewalk Enhancement Project. In a contract between the property owner and the town, it states there is a desire to improve the sidewalk and share the cost with the town 50/50.Mark Pepple, council member, asked what the normal cost is for sidewalk replacement. “The normal property has between 60 and 120 feet of sidewalk,” said Hart. “We’ll do the demolition and it would cost approximately $2,000 to replace. It has to be four-feet wide to cover the American Disabilities Act regulations. The homeowners cost will be $1,000.”“We’ll set up payments for them and ‘Busco is doing the demolition to save homeowner’s cost,” said Sade-Bartl.The council also adjusted the late fee of $700 for a property owned on East Pleasant Street that was vandalized and flooded. They also waived the $3,000 sewer charge.Hart announced the sewer camera is no where to be found.“It has been missing but if you keep using the sewer at Brevin’s it might just come up. It is caught in that sewer loop,” said Hart.Pepple met with Cathy Broxton-Ball, director of the Whitley County Emergency Management Agency.“Cathy watched the weather for Turtle Days and now is watching it for Old Settlers Days. Churubusco will be the scene of a disaster drill in late 2013-14. It’s being planned,” he said.Sade-Bartl is currently looking for new Christmas decorations for the town. The next council meeting has been moved to Thursday, July 5, due to the holiday.
