Churubusco wins close NECC game at Angola

September 17, 2011

ANGOLA – Churubusco football took it’s undefeated record to Angola Friday and came away in better shape, beating the Angola Hornets 37-21 in what was a very back and forth contest.
The Eagles began the game doing what they do best, running the ball. Halfway into the first quarter, Cory Miller took a handoff from 15 yards out to put ’Busco in the lead, 7-0.
The Eagles next drive began at their own three yard line, a drive which resulted in an 82-yard touchdown run by Jason Nicodemus to end the first quarter, part of his 127 yards in the first half.
Although a mostly uneventful second quarter, Angola quarterback Brady Boots found his brother, Robby Boots, for a three-yard touchdown pass with just under four minutes to go in the half, bringing the score within a touchdown, 14-7.
On the ensuing kickoff, Josh LeFever returned the ball 81 yards to the Hornets’ four yard line. Two plays later however, LeFever fumbled the ball, giving it back to Angola on their own one yard line.
Wasting little time, Brady hit Austin Bauer for a 31-yard strike and immediately found Robby for a 57 yard gain, taking Angola down to the ’Busco 12 yard-line.
