LAGRANGE — Despite an 8-6 record for the season, Churubusco wrestling has had two seniors remain perfect.
After a 58-24 win at Lakeland Tuesday night, the Eagle seniors improved to 28-0 for the season.
Seniors Braxton Siddons and Zack Armstead both took pinfall wins against the Lakers proving their leadership this season, according to head coach Sam Riesen.
“Our seniors have been great this season,” Riesen said. “Braxton and Zack are both undefeated this year. They are currently 28-0 this season and have a chance to do some great things this year.”
Siddons got his win at 189 pounds over Lakeland’s Caleb Long just 48 seconds into the match.
Armstead picked up his pinfall near the end of the second period over Lakers 140-pound Cain Shepherd.
With a 16-4 major win, Adam Boggess improved his season record to 9-3 at 135 pounds. Boggess picked up his win over Kyle Bowen.
“Adam Boggess is continuing his season in a very solid fashion,” Riesen noted. “He is 9-3 and has really turned into a solid team leader.”
Seven other Eagles picked up pinfall wins against the Lakers.
Many as underclassmen, Riesen notes they have been the difference.
“We are starting to see a lot of growth out of our team this season,” Rieson stated. “We started the year knowing that we had some very talented upperclassmen, but only had four of them in our varsity lineup. We also felt that our sophomore and freshmen classes had the potential to be really special. Our sophomores made some huge steps this week.”
Three consecutive pinfalls came from Brandon Wormcastle, Jason Nicodemus and Sam Siddons.
After suffering his first loss of the season Tuesday night, Sam Siddons bounced back at 160 pounds pinning Kaleb Howard in the second period.
Wormcastle needed only one period pinning Thomas Roebel with one second to spare in the first period in the 145 pound class.
Nicodemus took his match at 152 pounds into the third period where he pinned down Laker Aaron Barker.
Other wins came from Austin Boggess (125 pounds), Brian Richardson (171 pounds), Gunner Barnhart (heavyweight), Shane Shroyer (112 pounds).
The Eagles have a busy week with senior night at home against Westview Thursday and the Carroll Super Duals Saturday.
