City eyes marathon for 2011

November 26, 2010

COLUMBIA CITY — Mayor Jim Fleck told the Columbia City Common Council Tuesday that the recent Veteran’s Marathon, in its second year, should grow even more next year.
“The third year (2011) is the break out year,” said Fleck.
“An evaluation is being done to evaluate the prospect of another race. It was a valuable event. It is new, it is exciting.”
Fleck told the board that runners who returned from the first marathon race, which also include a half-marathon (13.1 miles) and a five kilometer run, were very positive about not only the event itself, but the hospitality of the local residents and businesses.
“The results were very positive,” Fleck said.
In other business of the council, member Walter Crowder announced that Doug Fahl has resigned from the Whitley County Redevelopment Commission. Crowder said a replacement is being sought.
