Olivia Western digs out a shot on No. 7 at Noble Hawk Golf Links Tuesday as the Lady Eagles opened the regular season at the Snider Invitational.

KENDALLVILLE — What better way to get the season started than to jump right into the fire of competition.
Tuesday, Columbia City girls’ golf did just that heading to Noble Hawk Golf Links for the annual Snider Invitational.
With all of its golfers back from 2009, City fielded a veteran squad to take on 16 other teams from across northeast Indiana.
The Lady Eagles came away in the middle of the pack taking ninth with the help of five scores within four strokes of each other.
The day belonged to East Noble as it played its home course shooting a first-place score of 321. The Knights were 10 shots ahead of second-place DeKalb at 331 while Columbia City total of 385 was good enough for ninth.
Sophomore Katie Sharp for East Noble beat out all other golfers by eight strokes with a three-under round of 68.
The Lady Eagles top golfer was Rachel Hazelet with her score of 94. Fellow seniors Olivia Western and Megan Yoder finished at 97.
McKenzie Smith also posted a 97 while Lauren Holloway got her first shot at varsity finishing with a 98.
