City nabs Missouri escapees

September 24, 2010

Two men who left a correctional facility in Missouri, allegedly stole a car in St. Louis, Mo., and headed to Columbia City were arrested early Thursday morning.
Columbia City police got a tip that the two men, 27-year-old Shawn M. Shaw and 20-year-old Brandon S. Kuhlman, were at a home in Columbia City where a woman who also had a warrant was staying.
Around 5 a.m., city police spotted activity at the house on Swihart Street, and set up a perimeter with sheriff’s deputies before they moved into search for Kuhlman and Shaw, according to Columbia City police.
City police found the two men hiding in a truck outside a garage at the home, and found the woman with the warrant in the garage.
Shaw and Kuhlman were wanted for leaving the correctional facility, stealing the car and for several other felony warrants.
The two were serving time for stealing a controlled substance, burglary and attempted burglary. Both were also parole violators, according to city police.
Missouri police plan to extradite Shaw and Kuhlman to face charges there. The woman, whose name was not available, was taken to Kosciusko County for her warrant.
