COLUMBIA CITY — An alert Columbia City policeman located a truck stolen from the front of a city residence last week.
According to Columbia City Police Department Capt. Brian Anspach, Patrolman Jeff Chapman spotted the black 1999 Dodge pickup reported stolen Thursday from a residence on Holden Road.
Anspach said Chapman was patrolling in the area of Elm and Harrison streets around 4 a.m. Saturday when he saw the vehicle and called in the license plate number for confirmation.
Anspach said the area Chapman found the stolen vehicle was the same area where reports of several vehicle break-ins came in to the department last week.
“It was right back in that area where we had all that going on,” said Anspach.
“There’s been a lot of activity going on right in that area. I’d say anyone who lives west of Line Street needs to pay attention to what’s going on.”
Last week Columbia City police reported several vehicles having been “entered” in the area of North Elm Street.
Anspach said there was another report of a vehicle break-in, this a car in the 500 block of North Elm Street where a woman reported noticing change missing from her car. When she investigated further, she noticed the suspect or suspects had taken a microwave from the back seat.
Anspach said police have not ruled out the possibility that those involved with the recent break-ins could live in the area of North Elm Street.
