COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s government officials are encouraging residents to decorate their homes with Christmas lights.
In the next couple weeks, officials will be judging citizens’ outdoor decorations. Columbia City Common Council President Dan Weigold said the winners should be announced by the next council meeting, Dec. 10.
Weigold, who heads the contest, is promoting that citizens get in the Christmas spirit.
“I encourage people to get outside and decorate their homes,” Weigold said. “It’s a family tradition around here to drive around at night and look at Christmas lights.”
In the past, the contest has been judged in four districts: Northwest, Southwest, Northeast and Southeast. However, that may change this year, as Weigold said some districts are more decorative than others.
“One of the areas is very tough to come up with a winner. There are some beautiful houses in some of the quadrants that have yet to win,” Weigold said. “Whereas other districts don’t participate in the contest.”
Last year’s winner was Mike Cook, who lives on Shorewood Court in the northeast quadrant.
