City swim competes in weekend invitationals

December 13, 2011

OSSIAN — Columbia City’s boys swim team fell seven points short of second place Saturday afternoon at the Norwell Invitational.
The girls team finished fourth out of ten teams at Wawasee Saturday morning.
“Some of the boys had tremendous time drops,” Columbia City Head Coach Kristen Swonger said.
Cole Smith won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.
Smith was the only Eagle to place first Saturday.
“Cole keeps getting closer to breaking both school records,” Swonger said.
Swonger said the boys meet was close, coming down to the last two races.
Though the girls placed fourth, Swonger was happy with how the team competed.
“This little team of 13 girls is proving they are small but mighty,” Swonger said.
Jena Bosselman placed second in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley.
“Some of the girls ran great times,” Swonger said.
The swimmers are back in action tonight for their first and only home meet, hosting Bishop Luers.
