City tops Whitko in county-rival match, 3-1

SOUTH WHITLEY — Despite holding the lead for most of the game, Whitko’s girls soccer team fell to Columbia City Wednesday night after holding a 1-0 lead for more than 40 minutes of play.

Columbia City’s Shila Tolliver sparked a 3-0 run with 13 minutes left in the game, leading the Lady Eagles to a 3-1 win over the county rival.

The lone goal of the first half was scored by Whitko’s Sydney Sims, putting the Lady ’Cats up 1-0 until late in the second half.

Tolliver scored at the 13:34 mark on a long goal from the right side of the field. She scored again three minutes later, at the 10:15 mark, off another long shot to give Columbia City its first lead of the game, 2-1.

Senior Haley Boner knocked in the Lady Eagles’ third and final goal with eight minutes to go, making the final score 3-1.

Both teams begin sectional play next week.
