COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ As traffic at Eagle Tech Academy continues to increase, concerns have been raised regarding the alley south of the building.
‚ÄúWe‚Äôve had complaints of some close-calls,‚ÄĚ Columbia City Police Chief Tim Longenbaugh said. ‚ÄúAs time goes on, there‚Äôs been more and more people at the school using the alley.‚ÄĚ
The alley, which runs between Walnut and Elm Streets, is marked as ‚Äúone-way,‚ÄĚ but is not defined in the city‚Äôs ordinance.
‚ÄúThere‚Äôs a one-way sign posted on Walnut Street, and a ‚Äėdo not enter‚Äô sign on the other side,‚ÄĚ Longenbaugh said. ‚ÄúBut we can‚Äôt enforce that if it‚Äôs not in the ordinance.‚ÄĚ
Longenbaugh said the school has asked police to help enforce the area, so he requested the council change the ordinance to include the one-way alley.
