CLEAN AND CLEAR: Plans put in place to protect ’Busco’s water

July 18, 2013

CHURUBUSCO — Providing clean, safe water for residents in Churubusco means understanding the Wellhead Protection Plan.

A detailed brochure was prepared by the town in order to educate residents on the importance of protecting the Churubusco’s water. These are available at the town’s office on Main Street.

Wellhead protection is a way to ensure drinking water is safe by managing the area around the community’s water supply and barring it from contamination.

Jeremy Hart, Churubusco’s town supervisor, was present at the Churubusco Town Council meeting Wednesday night to answer questions about the protection plan.

A letter mapping out residences located in the protection area was sent by the town. If encouraged those living in the mapped off area to exercise caution when applying chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides and other hazardous products to lawns.

During the meeting, council members opened the floor for public comments and questions. A resident asked if this meant he was no longer allowed to use pesticides or herbicides on his property.
