Col. City baseball earns first NHC win
Columbia City’s Ross Elkins and Zac Steinke meet at the mound Tuesday night in the Eagles’ win over DeKalb.
Columbia City’s baseball team beat the DeKalb Barons, 11-1, Tuesday evening at home to pick up its first Northeast Hoosier Conference victory.
The Eagles got on the board early, thanks to leadoff hitter Travis Herbst’s double to start the game.
He later scored on a passed-ball which gave the Eagles the lead, 1-0.
Herbst added a single and a walk later in the game, raising his average to .356 in the leadoff spot.
Thanks to sloppy play in the field by the Barons in the third inning, the Eagles pushed across two more runs on one hit, a walk and an error which extended their lead, 3-1.
