Col. City comes out on top of shootout

SOUTH WHITLEY — The Whitley County rivalry matchup between Columbia City and Whitko was a shootout — to say the least.

Despite back-and-fourth action between the rivals, the Lady Eagles used second-half free throws to take an 81-68 win.

While Columbia City has beaten the Lady Wildcats the last five years in a row — the Lady Eagles have not scored more than 80 points in any game since 2000 — 13 years ago.

It wasn’t by any fault of Whitko. The Lady ’Cats’ 68 points Friday night would’ve won the last nine matchups against their rivals — neither team has scored more than 65 points in their last nine contests together.
