FORT WAYNE — As has been the case since its inception, Saturday’s Northeast Hoosier Conference Swimming and Diving Meet was dominated by perennial powers Homestead and Carroll, but the Columbia City boys’ team worked its way into a tie for fourth in the team standings and the Lady Eagles took sixth at the Homestead pool.
The Eagle boys took fourth place finishes in both the first and last events of the day. In the 200-yard medley relay the team of Shane Bufkin, Nathan Koch, Dayne Trump and Jon Fix took fourth with a time of 1:54.32. In the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay, Foster Eber and Jared Merz joined Koch and Trump to post a time of 3:44.61, good for fourth.
For the Lady Eagles, the team of Cassie Bosselman, Taylor Duncan, Taylor Hartsock and Mishayla Hager took sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:10.33 in the meet-opening event. The Eagle girls also got a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay where Hager joined with Katlin Knott, Dakota Lex and Miranda Eber to post a time of 2:01.35.
“The boys had a really good day, today,” said Columbia City Head Coach Kristen Swonger. “Some of the freshman stepped up and swam well. The girls did okay, but we have a bit of work to do before sectionals. This is a big meet and some of the kids have never swam in a big arena like this, so I am pretty happy with the results.” The Eagles return to action January 15th with a meet at Carroll.
