May 12, 2012

NEW HAVEN — Columbia City’s boys golf team posted its best score of the season Thursday night at Whispering Creek.

The Eagles won with a 156 over the Bulldogs, who shot a 177.

Columbia City’s previous low was 166, 10 strokes higher than the Eagle’s score on Thursday.

Eagle Drew Burnsworth shot his best score of the season, 35, earning medalist honors.

“It was good to see Burnsworth break out and finish a round well,” Thompson said. “It was huge.”

Derek Philbee fired a 39, his first score under 40 this season.
“He’s been playing well for us,” Thompson said.

Drew Benedict fired a 40, also his best of the season, after sitting out the beginning of the season for injury.

Dustin Parrett shot a 41 to round off Columbia City’s varsity scoring.

The varsity squad is back in action today at Leo’s Invitational at Cross Creek.
