COLUMBIA CITY — In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy clicked the ruby slippers together and repeated “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.”
The Columbia City softball team may be saying the same thing after Wednesday’s Northeast Hoosier Conference match-up with the Carroll Chargers.
After several closer, low-scoring road contests, the Lady Eagles returned to Morsches Park to pound out 14 hits, downing the Lady Chargers 12-0 in five innings.
“We hit the ball really well tonight,” said Lady Eagle Head Coach Steve Cox. “We have had four road games in a row and they were closer ball games, 3-2, 4-1, that sort of thing, so it was nice to get home and turn the bats loose.”
And turn the bats loose was exactly what the Lady Eagles did, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first, adding another in the second and exploding for eight runs in the third frame to blow the game open.
The game ended on a line drive back to pitcher Vodde giving The Lady Eagles the 12-0 win.
“Our offense was really clicking tonight,” said Cox “And then there is Cassie (Vodde). She really controlled them tonight, and when they did get base runners she just bore down and pitched out of it.
“But what really helped was the fact that we are really playing just about the best defense we can behind her.”View more articles in:
