COLUMBIA CITY — A five-run third inning fueled by a grand slam home run helped the visiting Wawasee Lady Warriors hand the Columbia City Lady Eagle softball team an 11-3 loss in the Eagles home opener Tuesday night at Morsches Park.
The first inning saw only one base runner for each squad. The Warriors saw their runner cut down as they were caught off base by the Lady Eagles.
Columbia City’s Allie Vodde drew a walk but that was the only offense for the Eagles in the inning.
The top of the second inning saw the Warriors get on the scoreboard. The leadoff batter drew a walk from Columbia City pitcher Krystin VanHouten.
Two consecutive singles, the first on a bunt pushed across a run for the visitors, giving them a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Warriors blew open the game in the third, driving home five runs. A lead-off bunt single followed by a base-on-balls put two Lady Warriors on base.
