Col. City tennis downs Bellmont

DECATUR — Celine Rongos is still undefeated, and Columbia City’s girls tennis team topped Northeast Hoosier Conference opponent Bellmont Friday night.

Rongos swept her opponent, Alysha Helmrich, winning 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

The Lady Eagles played 10 matches in seven days, including seven away matches.

“I’m very pleased with the girls,” Columbia City Head Coach Kathleen Myers said. “They finished off strong during a very long week of tennis.”

The Lady Eagles evened out their record at 7-7, and are 3-2 in the NHC.

In No. 3 singles against Bellmont, Adriana Brown topped her opponent 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Sydney Ford and Macie Hinen won a long match. Columbia City’s duo won the first set 6-4, but fell in the second set 6-4. Hinen and Ford came back in the third to win 6-3 and take the match.

Breanna Hicks and Alaina Beckner won the No. 2 doubles match, 6-1, 6-0.

Columbia City’s Kennedy Slavicek suffered the lone loss, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Kylie Beery of Bellmont in No. 2 singles.

Junior varsity winners include: Lauren Rivas, Rachel Flauding and Katie Doehrmann in singles, and the doubles team of Bayley Smith and Cassie Bosselman.
