Col. City tennis downs Whitko

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s and Columbia City’s tennis teams not only faced each other Monday night in South Whitley, but battled gusty wind.

Columbia City beat the Lady ’Cats 5-0.

In No. 1 singles, Celene Rongos beat Whitko’s Abby Marshall 6-1, 6-0. Columbia City’s Kennedy Slavicek defeated Aressa Tackwell 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Whitko’s Laura Hippensteel lost to Alaina Beckner 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Breanna Hicks and Sydney Ford downed Candace Swick and Whitney Hobbs, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 2 doubles, Blake Farber and Macie Hinen defeated Erin Murphy and Bailey Baugher 6-1, 6-0.

Columbia City’s record is 4-2. Whitko fell to 2-3.

JV: In junior varsity action, Adrianna Brown and June Ramos of Columbia City came away with victories.

Columbia City is back in action Tuesday at Bellmont. Whitko travels to Wabash Thursday.
