COL. CITY WINS THRILLER, 5-4: Lady Eagles vie for title today at Norwell

June 2, 2014

For the second time this sectional season, Columbia City’s softball team edged out its opponent in a close, one-run game.

On Monday, the Lady Eagles took on Bellmont in the sectional opener and were led to the win by seniors Alyssa Hansen and Allie Vodde.

Hansen scored the game-winning run to advance Columbia City to the second round.

Columbia City was scheduled to play Thursday, but after Wednesday’s game was rained out, the Lady Eagles were pushed back to play Friday night against Mississinewa.

After a pair of RBIs by Hansen, it was fellow senior Vodde that brought in the win for Columbia City on Friday.

The Lady Eagles faced a near-impossible situation — a 4-3 deficit in the seventh inning, with two outs and two runners on base.

Vodde knocked the ball to the gap in right field, sending home the runners to take a 5-4 win.

The Lady Eagles advance to face Norwell today for the sectional title at 11 a.m in Ossian.
