SYRACUSE â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s wrestling team made the trip to Syracuse Saturday to defend the Wawasee Invitational title the Eagles won last year.
Columbia City joined Whitley County rival Whitko, the host Wawasee Warriors, West Noble, Tippecanoe Valley and Fort Wayne South Side in making up the field.
The Eagles swept the competition, posting a 5-0 record on their way to the invitational crown, while Whitko finished third with a 3-2 record.
In round one, the Eagles downed South Side 72-3. In the second round, Columbia City defeated Wawasee in a lopsided match, 63-8, before beating West Noble in the third match of the day.
In their closest contest of the tournament, the Eagles took a 45-28 match from Tippecanoe Valley in round four. The Eagles downed Whitko in the final round of the day by a 53-18 score.
Columbia City had four wrestlers go undefeated on the day. Dylan McClure boasted a perfect slate at 106 pounds, while Hunter Langeloh went 5-0 at 113 pounds. Landon Hodges, at 160 pounds, and Kohltin Hoeppner, at 285 pounds, were also undefeated on the day.
Whitko boasted two wrestlers that were unblemished for the tournament. Wildcats Lane Wolf at 126 pounds, and Cole Findley in the 152-pound weight class both finished with perfect 5-0 records.
