Collaborative effort

April 3, 2014

JoAnne Reeder, left, has volunteered her rural Whitley County home to house nine horses from Shadarobah Horse Rescue. The rescue was relocated from its Fort Wayne location less than two weeks ago with little warning. Michelle Heitz, right, is president of Shadarobah, and has been working with volunteers to care for all 42 of the displaced animals now being housed at several locations in neighboring counties. The rescue is planning a benefit to raise money for the nonprofit. Willowbrook Day School, 101 W. Dupont Rd. in Fort Wayne, will host an Easter benefit April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include pony rides, games, Easter egg hunts and egg coloring. Designed much like a carnival, tickets will be purchased by patrons for the various featured activities, and proceeds will benefit Shadarobah.
