Columbia City golf takes 10th at invite; Churubusco takes 12th, Ryan Mayer fires a 76
LEO â€” Coming off its best score of the season, Columbia Cityâ€™s golf team placed 10th in the 18-hole Leo Invitational, held at Cedar Creek Saturday afternoon.
Bishop Dwenger won the match, shooting 41 strokes less than Columbia Cityâ€™s 348. The Eagleâ€™s score tied with Leoâ€™s second team and county-rival Churubusco, which placed 12th.
Three Northeast Hoosier Conference foes were also in the match. Carroll placed second, four strokes behind Dwenger with a 311.
Bellmont came in fifth with a 324, and New Haven took last with a 396.
Bishop Luers and Concordia each got a 315 to take third and fourth place, respectively.
Concordia had the Invitationalâ€™s medalist, Dan Wert, who shot a 72 on the par 71 course.
Columbia Cityâ€™s best score was 10 strokes behind Wert. Trent Murphy netted a 82 as the Eaglesâ€™ leader. Drew Benedict shot an 86 as Columbia Cityâ€™s second best. Dustin Parrett carded an 89, Max Dryer had a 91 and Drew Burnsworth had a 96.
Churubuscoâ€™s Ryan Mayer scored sub-80, firing a 76, just five strokes over par. Beau Barkley netted an 86. Brandon Norris had a 94. Parker Conrad had a 92 and Brad Martin shot a 102.
