Columbia City resident reflects on a century of life

COLUMBIA CITY — When Helen Helmer was born, the life expectancy in the United States was 47.
To date, the Columbia City resident has that mark topped by 53 years. Helmer will be 100 years old on Tuesday. An open house is planned in her honor at The Oaks Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m.
