SOUTH WHITLEY— A big fourth-game comeback helped Whitko’s volleyball team start 2013 with a win Tuesday.

Whitko downed visiting Lakeland Christian Academy 3-2 — 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 25-13, 15-11.

By the middle of game three, the Lady Wildcats might have wondered if they would take the match the distance, let alone win. Lakeland took advantage of poor Whitko passing to win game two, then never trailed in taking the third game.

“We struggled getting our passes to the net,” said Whitko Head Volleyball Coach Brandy Smith.

Smith said the team has a new setter and tries to funnel its offense to the center to take advantage of 6’4 middle blocker Whitney Hobbs. That proved unsuccessful in the early going.

“It’s hard with some of the passes in the back row,” Smith said. “That’s where we really struggled in games 2 and 3.”
