COLUMBIA CITY — Indian Springs Middle School’s boys and girls track teams ended their season this month.

The boys 8th-grade squad took first place in the Northeast Lakes Middle School Conference meet, downing Whitko, Lakeview, Edgewood, Lincoln, Riverview and Crestview.

ISMS barely edged Lincoln, by five points, to earn the title.

Many tracksters placed higher in their events than they were seeded.

The girls took third in the NELMSC conference meet, and Whitko’s girls won.

Results for Whitko’s athletes were not available.

Jake Matteson led the Eagle Stars with two wins, in the mile run and the 800-meter, as well as a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash.

Matteson was also part of the 1,600-meter relay team that placed first.
Other members of the relay team included Terfor Gatchell, Tim Hearld and Brad Johnson.
