Conference races heating up the grid

October 8, 2013

WHITLEY COUNTY — With two weeks left of high school football, two Whitley County high schools are in the driver’s seat for conference championships.

Whitko (5-2, 5-0) and Churubusco (7-0, 5-0) are both the only unbeatens left in their respective conferences, the Three Rivers Conference (TRC) and Northeast Corner Conference (NECC).

Whitko beat North Miami last week, 49-35. Rochester, the only other unbeaten in the TRC heading into the week, fell to Tippecanoe Valley 42-21.

The Wildcats take on the Zebras this week. Rochester still has something to play for, as a win would keep the Zebras in the chase for a conference championship.

Whitko plays Tippecanoe Valley in week 9. As the three schools head into the season’s final games, all three are still in play for a potential conference championship.

The Wildcats can clinch the title outright with a win this week and a Tippecanoe Valley loss to North Miami.
