Council determines mayor’s pay

November 21, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Every year, Columbia City’s Common Council is required to evaluate the salaries of elected officials.

This year was no different, and after discussions in previous meetings, the council made a decision last Thursday.

Officials chose to give both the mayor and clerk-treasurer positions the same raise that city employees are receiving this year, a $1,040 per year boost.

In previous meetings, the council considered giving the mayor’s position a larger raise, but after some research, decided against it.

While council members agreed that the current mayor, Ryan Daniel, is extremely engaged and hard-working, that may not be the case with the next elected mayor.
