COLUMBIA CITY— Two football teams searching for their first win would be enough for excitement on any Friday night.
When the two schools involved are Whitley County rivals, such as Columbia City and Whitko, the tension goes up another notch.
The Eagles and Wildcats will kick off their annual battle for Whitley County supremacy tonight at 7 p.m. at Columbia City High School.
Last week, the Eagles fell to Warsaw, 33-14. Whitko dropped a 42-20 game against Wawasee, in the first game as Wildcat head coach for Josh Mohr.
For the Wildcats, it will be their second of three consecutive road games to open the year. After playing both non-conference games on the road, Whitko opens TRC play at Southwood next week.
In its home opener, Columbia City is hoping to continue its recent trend of success against Whitko. The Eagles beat the Wildcats 43-13 in 2012, and have won all three years since the series resumed in 2010.
