WAYNEDALE — Though neither Whitko nor Columbia City could top Homestead’s impressive 121 points Thursday night at the boys track sectional, Whitley County athletes qualified for regionals in 21 placings.

Churubusco competed at the North Side sectional and came in sixth as a team. Whitko placed second behind the Spartans with 95.5 points. Wayne (90) took third, New Haven (80) came in fourth and Columbia City placed fifth with 59 points.

“In reality, Homestead is the best team,” Whitko Head Coach Ron Cherry said. “They’re the ones we were chasing all night.”

Whitko will have a representative in 12 of 16 events next week at regionals at the same place, Wayne High School.

“I’m really tickled for the guys. They ran well. They jumped well,” Cherry said.”We had a lot of good performances tonight in a lot of different areas.

“It was nice to see our kids step up. I’m thrilled with it.”

Whitko’s Alec Wilkinson and Columbia City’s Brendon Zoltek were sectional champions in their events.

All three schools will compete at Wayne High School next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
