COLUMBIA CITY â€” After two years, United Auto Workers Local 2049 strikers left their site near Coupled Products, LLC. in Columbia City.
UAW officials said they got a call Friday night from the International UAW and the strikers packed up shortly after that.
It is unknown why the strikers decided to leave.
Twenty-nine members of UAW Local 2049 started picketing the manufacturer in June 2011. Claims of unfair labor practices after contract negotiations fell a part had kept 21 of the 29 picketers active.
In January, the number of union members participating in the strike had dropped from 29 to 21.
Although strikers declared unfair labor practices, Jonathan Drew, the companyâ€™s president, told The Post & Mail in January that Coupled Products has an â€śexcellent workforce in the plantâ€ť and â€śdedicated employeesâ€ť who will support the business.
