IN COURT: Col. City man sentenced to 8 years for burglary

October 8, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City man received the maximum sentence in Whitley County Circuit Court for his burglary offense.

Gabriel Auer, 35, was sentenced Monday to eight years, all to serve in the Whitley County Jail.

It was the maximum sentence for a Class C felony.

Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler said Auer was deserving of the maximum sentence.

“Mr. Auer has a substantial criminal record,” he said. “He has one prior offense of burglary at the same establishment.”

Case reports indicate that Auer, a stepson of the victim, used keys and broke into Rosencrans Truck Repair.

He reportedly took old truck parts, part cores and other recyclable auto materials to a local scrapper.
