COLUMBIA CITY — A South Whitley woman received a 10-year sentence in Whitley County Circuit Court last week for committing burglary.
Ashley Lemon, 28, was found guilty at a bench trial in August.
She received a 10-year sentence, with six years to serve and four on suspended sentence. Four of the six years to serve will be at the Whitley County Jail and two will be on home detention.
Judge James Heuer said he would have Lemon serve the home detention portion of her sentence first, so it would not be a hardship on Lemon’s young daughter.
Lemon was represented by Whitley County Public Defender Brad Voelz. He said that Lemon had no felonies on her record and it had been five years since her last misdemeanor conviction. Most importantly, according to Voelz, would be the hardship on Lemon’s family if she was given a long sentence.
“She has a 4-year-old daughter,” he said.
Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler said Lemon victimzed a family she knew.
