IN COURT: Man accused of stealing from parents

October 11, 2013

Lawrence

COLUMBIA CITY — A Columbia City man pleaded not guilty to burglary and theft charges Monday.

Stephen “Nathan” Lawrence, 23, was arrested Oct. 2 for those charges, as well as counts of residential entry and criminal mischief.

According to police, Lawrence allegedly broke into his parents’ home and stole items from their residence.

Lawrence will have his next pretrial conference in Whitley County Circuit Court Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.

Case reports indicate a residency on S. Walnut Street was burglarized, and several items were missing. Those possessions missing included a 46-inch television, a Kindle Fire, a Sony Blu-ray player, a laptop and a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Officers found little evidence of forced entry. The victims said the only ones with keys were their two sons, one in college, and the other being Lawrence.

Officers investigated Lawrence’s apartment and found nothing. A check of his vehicle revealed something large under a blanket in the back.

When questioned, Lawrence said of the large item, “It’s the TV.”
